There are several methods of obtaining solutions to SAP issue, depending upon the type of issue.

Initially when I started learning SAP, way back in 1999, the objective was to first understand the fundamentals of ERP and what it stood for. Those were the days when old programs like Dbase,Foxpro,COBOL etc were used. We spent a lot of time to create even a single report and integration was something unheard of.Our MM department had their own software running inventory and PSL or Priced Store Ledger.Today it's called Material Ledger. They had to talk to the Finance department to know if any payment has been made or any statement of outstanding is available.

Once we started implementing SAP, we realized that it integrates the functions of several departments seamlessly, thus eliminating redundant data-entry and resultant errors. But like any beginner,we made a lot of mistakes and left it to the support guys to rectify the same. The business colleagues also felt that SAP is magic and will provide solutions to all their issues. Most of them actually showed disappointment after the initial expectations.

After 3 or 4 implementations under my belt I realized that the more you learn the less you have actually learnt and achieved. I understood the meaning a of what a great thinker who once remarked:"Strange how much you should know before you know how little you know".Today after 13 years, 10 implementations, 20 rollouts and multiple upgrades, I feel as if I have just started my SAP career. The product evolves continuously, is upgraded, enhanced and updated.so much so that a trainee is able to tell you more about it than what you knew.

But one of the most common issues faced by all SAP consultants is error-handling. With this in view, I have decided to create a blog focusing exclusively on error-handling with illustrations.

I request everyone to absorb the contents and provide your valuable feedback so that we can continuously improve and contribute with greater sense of satisfaction. After all, the process of learning never stops.

Chapter 1.Introduction.

Before we talk about SAP, let's try to understand the meaning of ERP.What is ERP or enterprise resource planning?Any enterprise in this world will have some resource. It can be a business house or even a small family. What is an enterprise?Any activity which attempts to survive in this world can be termed an enterprise.A soldier trying to battle it out is also trying to plan his resources to defeat the enemy. In this context, he can be termed an enterprise.A person is said to be highly resourceful, if he is able to outwit others and handle a situation properly.

In the context of ERP, only business entities are termed an enterprise. Some people felt that ERP is outdated and is no more an option for a career. This is absurd because, as long as there are enterprises in this world, their resources will have to be planned and hence ERP will never stop. It is like eating and breathing.ERP is an activity. There are many tools to perform this activity. Some of the tools may get outdated.Coming to SAP, it is one of the best tools available and is continually evolving and updating.Hence it can be assumed to be a safe career option.

Handling economic crisis

In continuation of my earlier post, I would like to mention that one of the important things to handle anxiety is not to bang your head on the wall.I will explain it like this:
Imagine you are sitting in a room and trying to go out to attend an urgent call. For some strange reason you try to look for a latch on the wall and not on the door. You will never be able to locate it.You may try a million times. You will not succeed. Now imagine trying to earn through the internet is like locating the latch on the wall. There are a million options available.Nothing will work.
Instead try to focus on your strengths and talk to people to identify opportunities.

How to overcome economic crisis

It is now being said that the economic crisis is worsening and people are in the grip of fear and anxiety as days pass by.While it is not possible to find a quick remedy for this, we can try to tackle it in a different way. Many people are still managing without adequate income. Our mind refuses to function in a crisis. However, there are certain things which we can do:
1.Change our attitude towards life.

I sold my car and paid of the loan. This helped me to save around Rs 12500 per month by way of EMI payment.
Next, I requested my driver to look for an alternative job, thus saving around Rs 6000 per month.
Third, I started using the bus thus saving around Rs 5000 per month I was spending towards petrol charges.

2.Change our way of thinking about social responsibility.

For almost 20 years I was continuously employed.I had never taken a holiday for more than 3 days and was always very busy.I could not even imagine that I would remain a freelancer for more than a month. But finally when it happened , it became a real torture.Everyone who has seen you stride out of your home arrogantly and sit inside a car while your driver keeps the door open suddenly finds that you have become a meek mouse peeping out of your house when your neighbors continue to attend office as usual. This makes you an introvert.I realized that I should break this shell and feel as if nothing has happened. It is just a longer holiday. So in order not to get used to lethargic way of living, I will walk out of my house everyday and go to the bus stand. From there go to different parts of the city observing everything happening around you.Never allow a dull moment.Start walking as much as possible.
Tell yourself you are not failing in your duty towards your family and the society. The whole world is going through this!I am doing this even today.
